I need to run. The fast metal things killed my brother. He’s back there, crushed on the hard ground. Humans everywhere. Everywhere. Nowhere to hide. So I run. I run close to the walls so the humans will not kill me.
One screams. Another has a stick. Pain. I get away. Cross the street. More metal things. I jump away, get over to the other side. A hole in the wall. I enter.
Am I safe? Different smells. Food. Humans. Hunger. I need food. Follow the smell. A bucket. Food. Meat. Vegetables. It’s even rotten. I eat. I see humans in a distance, but my hunger is greater than my fear. I keep eating.
Something cuts into my back. I turn. A human cut me. He lifts his hand. The sharp thing in his hand. I attack. Bite him. He screams. I run under a bench. Shouts. Humans running around.
A rat! It bit me!
Kill it! Kill it!
I’m trapped. I run for the door. The humans jump away in fear. They fear me. I don’t know why. I‘m running for the door. I’m doing it. I’m making it. Just a little bit further.
Teeth sink into my flesh, shake me, throw me into the air. I hit the ground. The wounds are deep. My neck feels strange. Broken. Last thing I see is the dog attacking a second time.

You’ll be glad to know the dog died later…of rabies.

Won’t help me much, though;) The last scene is actually inspired by a scene with my dog, they are quite effective.

Frenetic! That had such great pace and energy. Makes me want to kick a dog too (I’m not going to though haha).

Haha! Rats sucks, though. I’ve had a couple of fights myself. Scary shit.

I think you should write a story about someone who goes around punching rats. Because he can. That’s an enthralling plot, for sure.

Creepy and fun! I was completely enthralled, and in the beginning, my sensory perception was muddled. What was happening? Am I an alien or a monster? Excellent story! Poor rat and brother rat.

Thank you! A rat’s life is hard and short, I’ll imagine. And in constant conflict with us humans, not to mention dogs and cats. Must be terrifying.

Right on! I know people who have pet rats. It’s crazy. Good for them, but I just couldn’t deal with a pet rat; let alone an uninvited one. Great illustrations, too!!

Thank you, I appreciate that a lot! Rats are scary animals, no doubt. I been fighting a couple of them, they have this look in their eyes saying “OK, you’ll win eventually, but I won’t go down without a fight, and you will get hurt!” My dog was having a ball, though. Never saw him happier.

I don’t think I’d feel sorry for the rat if I caught it in my kitchen and had to dispatch it.

I had a rat problem twice in my cave, I didn’t kill it either of the times. First one my dog killed, the other I closed it’s way in. They’re smart though, it was quite difficult to keep it out. They’re dangerous as well, so by all means, kill it.
