Traffic Jam

Biiiiip! Beeeeeeeep!

-The traffic’s stuck… damn, as if the weekend wasn’t short enough as it is.

-And here in the middle of the tunnel… Now what?

-I guess we’re just going to have to wait. It has to loosen up sooner or later… Wait, why are people running back here?

-Do you think there’s been an accident?

-I’ll go have a look.

Jake walked on down the tunnel. People were running the opposite way.

-What’s happening? Why are you…

-Run! There’s a monster!

-Run for your life!

-A monster… Ha! That’s just silly. I guess I’ll have to go check it out myself.

The end of the tunnel was far ahead. He kept walking until he could see the bridge outside.

The traffic was jammed, all right. Several big trucks were blocking the way, but there was something else in front of them, like some kind of wall. He couldn’t really see what it was from here, but it looked like a huge rock. There was no one running any more. All the cars were abounded.

He reached the opening. His eyes followed the rock up towards the tall top. A giant face was staring down at him, watching him from high above. Jake swallowed. There was a giant monster sitting on the highway. There was no way no one would ever get past like this.

There goes my vacation. This can’t be happening.

Jake swallowed, forced his hands to stop shaking… (more)

Resentment

Mitch looked down on the little village on the table. An exact replica of the village where he lived, the village where he was from. He laughed inside.

The little hairs of his so-called friends and family. The objects of people he didn’t even know. The little figures all had names now. Personalities. Hopes and dreams for him to destroy. He hated them. He hated them all.

He picked up one, put it down in the village. Mrs Maple. The old hag down the street. The one who told his parents about the dead little birds. She put her close to James, the limp. He turned the light down to night mode. Tonight they would meet, in the alley behind the church. Where no one ever walked.

He pinched James with a needle…. (more)

Basket Case

-No! Let go! It’s mine!

-Not any more it ain’t! Give it!

-Please… You don’t know the danger you are…

A voice thundered from hills on the other side of the valley.

-Is that man bothering you, Elisa…?

-N-no! No! Everything is fine! We’re.. we’re just… flirting! Flirting, yes, that’s it! We’re flirting.

-Are you sure? He seems rather aggressive… (more)

Never the Same Again

The goats were running up the hill, looking back over their shoulder. The noise from the engine far away was loud and frightening. A giant machine. The driver… Its kind had come from far away, somewhere beyond this world. They were huge like gods. Terrifying.

The goatherds walked slowly up the hill to find shelter for the night.

-The sound, one of them said to the other. -It’s getting closer… (more)

Guardian Angel

-She’s back! The Mushroom Picker! She’s back!

-Oh my great fungus! Run! Hide!

-Wait, Surnbok said thoughtfully. -I might have an idea.

He ran through the little mushroom forest as fast as he could with his little tail body. The others ran back and forth in panic, screaming, crying.

The first mushroom was picked. No one lived there, but it did give good shadow down by the little puddle.

Another mushroom went up in the air.

-Nooooo!!! My house! My new sofa! Bambar ran towards the mushroom house.

The others held him back.

-There’s nothing you can do! Shell take you as well!

Surnbok had something white in his hand… (more)

Not the Devil at All

Father Miguel walked through the church. His church, it had been for years now.

He heard the rumbling again. From underneath somewhere, deep down. The first time he had thought it was an earthquake, but no one had noticed anything outside the church. It was under him, straight down. It worried him.

Another rumble. Stronger this time, the walls shook, a candle fell on the floor. Could it be… the Devil? Was he coming for him? God knew he had sinned, horrible sins hard to forgive. He had become a priest to control his urges, but it had only made it worse. Now he was surrounded by them every day, so cute and innocent.

The shaking increased. The walls shook, the floor, everything. He backed up towards the door. A crack opened in the floor.

A giant hand broke through… (more)
