He dreamt of long, relaxed nights, of sleeping all day. He dreamt of creating beauty. He dreamt of green forests and waterfalls. He dreamt of being free.
There was nothing but desert. Rocks and sand as long as his eyes could see. Hard work all day. Burning sun. Dry air.
He jumped up on the tank driller once again, drove up the hill to destroy the homes of little creatures, make wounds in the face of his world.
Doing his part to make the wheel go round, to keep the destruction going. It didn’t make sense at all, but there was nothing else he could do. The machinery. It was all they had left.

Hehe, no need for citation on that one 😉 Sadly we seem to be doing the destruction quite well on our own…

Because I started thinking about AI, I had to write a story based on it. I think it’s a tad more optimistic.

A grim view of the future, but sadly quite possible. Nice one 🙂

Oh, the poor little creatures! What a frightening future. Love the picture that goes with the story, too!

Nature will find a way to reclaim what was hers to begin with 🙂 Or so I hope! A short but very strong piece.

I think so too, but I’m afraid it could mean getting rid of most of us humans, though… Thanks Ekaterina! I’ve been spending a lot more time on the illustrations than the writing lately, basing the story on the illustration in stead of the other way around, like I’ve usually been doing. I thought I needed to get my portfolio up and running 🙂

Perhaps you’re right! I think you’re doing well on both sides of the coin.

a timely story for the havoc fossil fuel technology is wreaking on the environment. and thanks for the offer. I had a quick run through. your illustrations are very evocative. it would be great fun to construct my own piece from one of your pics, with due attribution of course. I will see if I am up for the challenge 🙂

Happy to hear that, John! Looking forward to see what you get out of it. And yes, we’re not going in a good direction these days, that’s for sure. Hopefully we’ll turn in time. Thanks for stopping by, and for a good comment 🙂

Like the ancient Romans, he’s making a desert and calling it peace.

Aren’t we all… 😀

We human beings seem to be doing exactly that. We destroy and make everything into a desert. Strong writing and an awesome illustration.

We’re all unwillingly caught up in the cycle of self-destruction… wonderful short. I love the little creatures in the illustration.

Yeah! (: I was away from this place running after logic and reason while riding on the back of chimeras. But now that I’m back I am amazed by all the dreams and illusions, stories and illustrations. Thank you for sharing. (:
