We don’t need you any more, Michael. Ted and I would be better off without you.
Michael said nothing. Ted was standing in front of him with a big knife in his hand.
What does he say, Michael? Tell me what he says!
Tommy had been Michael’s imaginary friend all their lives. They grew up together, and the only one who always had been by his side was Tommy. The only one he could ever trust. Ted had been the first one to believe in him, to understand. Other’s had joined in.
Then everything had gone out of control.
The first time Michael didn’t really understand. Tommy had wanted him to get rid of one of their new friends, one of the people listening to their conversations in the park. Trevor was his name. He was a bad seed, he said. He was evil. It wouldn’t be the first time Tommy had got him into trouble, but he didn’t want to kill anyone.
He’d told Ted. The next day Trevor died in an accident.
Some weeks later Tommy wanted to murder a girl. He wanted to see her naked, he said. Melanie, the neighbour. He wanted to see her naked, and he wanted her dead. Michael refused, and they had an argument. He didn’t mean for Ted to know, but he heard him, and started asking.
The girl was found raped and murdered two days later.
He stopped telling Ted what Tommy said. This had gone too far. He just wanted it all to stop. Now they were both angry.
Why won’t you help us, Michael. What did I ever do to you?
Shut up, Tommy! Michael didn’t take his eyes off Ted.
What’s he saying, Michael? What does he want?
Tell him I want him to kill you, Michael. Tell him we don’t need you any more.
Shut up!
I want to know what he says! Tell me!
I won’t tell you! This has gone too…
Kill him, Ted!
You can’t… You… I’m… I’m your friend.. We’ve been best friends all our lives… Tears could be seen in the corner of Michael’s eyes
What does he say, Michael? Ted moved closer. He was looking around, moving his head a bit as if he was trying to hear something in the air. His voice was angry, threatening. Tell me what he says.
Nothing! He says nothing.
I know what he says. He says I’m better than you. He says you’re weak. He says we don’t need you any more.
Michael backed away into the corner.
Please…
You’re the one holding him back, Michael. He needs to be free. Tommy needs to be free.
Please… Michael was crying. Please, shut up, both of you. Don’t do this, please…
Die. Die. Die. Die… Tommy repeated in Michaels head, over and over again.
Ted lifted the knife. He struck. He struck again, again and again. Michael slid down the wall dying. Ted was standing in the room alone. He could hear police sirens in a distance. It was over. Tommy was gone.

Thanks a lot, Claire! This one came out a bit late today, I had a hard time coming up with something. Happy you liked it 🙂

No problem. 🙂
I find a break from writing helps a lot when it comes to coming up with new material. 🙂

“First they came for…” this one was especially chilling as there is a mix of occult, but we’re not sure. Good, unforgiving narrative! We’re always at your mercy, never knowing who might escape.

Thanks a lot, that’s exactly what I want to hear 🙂 It’s a bit contrary to yours, really. I wonder what would happen to this one if I’d read yours before. I guess we’ll never know 😉

Chilling, touching, gripping and terrifying read.
Kudos! I was scared but I felt for Micheal… Ted…Tommy got them both.
Good stuff my friend!

That work of art? Amazing!
I love how puzzling it looks at first glance. After reading, it is so poetic and depicts the characters, all of them.
Michael trapped by Tommy and vise versa. Ted well… he’ll be trapped in jail.
I absolutely love it!

Thank you! Michael and Tommy are indeed in a lousy situation. That is, if Tommy really exists at all 🙂

I think I’d much prefer meeting Jimmy Stewart’s invisible rabbit friend Harvey as in the film of the same name Harvey. 😀

Haven’t seen it, but it looks interesting. I think most imaginary friends are better than Tommy 🙂

Good story! Tommy sounds like a rotten egg 😛
I’m curious, how did you build up your followers/commenters?

Thanks! Tommy wasn’t good company at all, was he… Imaginary friends is a dangerous thing 😀
You have to follow and comment on other peoples blogs, I gues, and stay in touch with your readers. Blogging seems to me to be a two way communication thing. Reblogging is great, both when others reblog your stuff and to reblog others. Some of my most valued mutual followers I’ve gotten in touch with by reblogging their stories or by them reblogging mine. And I get an awesome story on my blog, too, just by clicking a button 🙂

Reminds me a little of the climax to the 1999 film “Fight Club,” which is a seriously disturbed movie. I own the DVD, but I’ve only watched it once. Not sure which decade I’ll get up the nerve to watch it again.

This is a fascinating story, especially from the perspective of someone who dissociates. It reminds me a bit of ‘Magic’, a 1978 film with Antony Hopkins in the lead. Your story is much more frightening

Hmmm… I will have to look up that movie. I did however have Fight Club coming in and out of my mind while writing it, so I guess it has some inspiration from there. Thanks!

You may enjoy Magic. Anthony Hopkins plays a young performer whose pending success sends him over the edge. Hopkins is brilliant as a man taken hostage by an imaginary friend.
