Alone

Alone.jpg

The Moon was looking down on Earth as she always did. He was different these days. Lights everywhere. New things were orbiting him as well, just like she did. It was nice. It was lonely out there, all she ever had of company was rocks crashing violently into her.

One day a new object moved up from earth. Another satellite, she thought at first, but it was heading straight towards her. It landed softly, unlike like the brutal meteors. In a friendly manner. She’d never known anything like it.

A creature came out. A strange little being in a white suit of some kind. He stepped clumsily down on her. It tickled. Another followed. They jumped happily around with such grace, such beauty. He pinned a stick in her. It stung a little bit, but she didn’t care. He could do what ever he wanted.

After a while they went back into the little metal thing they had arrived in. It started shaking, flames came out of it. It burned her a bit, but she didn’t care about that. She didn’t want them to leave.

No. Please don’t go! Said Moon, but they did not listen. She saw them going back towards Earth, always so blue, green and full of life. How lucky he was, never alone. Maybe one day they would be back. Maybe, if she was lucky, they would even stay.

If she only shone bright enough.

  1. Love this: so glad you pointed it out to me. I like your illustrations too. Are you working towards a volume of these tales? It would be worth thinking about, if you aren’t already thinking that way. All best wishes.

    1. Thank you. I guess if an editor asked me, the answer would be yes, but I’m not sure if I’m ready for a self publishing project. Maybe an ebook, though, but it’s unknown ground for me. We’ll see:)

      1. I worked with traditional publishing for a long time, but found it very slow and quite annoying in many ways. I was introduced to CreateSpace / Amazon by a friend and have posted 11 books there since August 2016. They are a mix rewrites and new texts. You can go paperback or e-book. I have done both. It’s relatively easy to take that route BUT you must do your own selling and marketing and distributing. Since I usually give my books away to my friends and fellow writers, this isn’t a problem for me.

  2. As I recall, they came back several times and even took a few of her rocks. Wonder what she thought of them driving around on her in that little lunar dune buggy?

        1. I draw some. I’m not terrific, but I do like to sketch, as it is another form of emotional expression for me. I have a few pieces posted to my blog, if you’re curious. 🙂 I think your artwork is lovely.

  3. The moon is lonely and, wanting to be like the earth, occasionally beckons the oceans to come to her. She fails, the earth feels her, so the moon keeps trying. It’s a lovely dance. And yours is a lovely story.
